One of the questions I often get from people about their Spirit Guides is what is my Spirit Guide’s name? Or more generally, do spirit guides have names? You may be surprised to hear that Spirit Guides don’t always have names. And they don’t really care what you call them, but if you ask, a Spirit Guide will answer.
Spirit Guides are a class of being that is technically different than the family in spirit who comes to guide you. It is possible for a family member to become a guide. That is, your family member in spirit may visit you often and give you specific messages to help you on your path.
When we talk about Spirit Guides, we are not talking about family in spirit. Your family in spirit lived on the earth and was given a name at birth. Spirit Guides may or may not have incarnated. They may or may not have had lives on the earth. So they may not even be too concerned about spirit guide names.
The name they give you may be one they had when they were last incarnate. Occasionally, they are not able to give you a name because they have a frequency that does not translate into a name. However, your spirit guide may give you a name that is close to the sound of the vibration that identifies them.
How your Spirit Guide decides to show or name him or herself (or itself for those Spirit Guides who are not human or are gender neutral) depends partly on you.
Spirit Guides tend to take a form that will not be threatening to you. They are here to work with you after all. If there were to come in a form that scared you, it wouldn’t be conducive to your relationship with them.
Now sometimes we are scared of what we don’t know. For example, when I was 15 I saw my first full apparition. This really scared me! It was a big, dark, hooded figure. When I asked an intuitive friend about this, she told me it was a teacher.
Because I watched lots of scary movies as a child, I’ll bet my mind decided what I saw was negative. I know now that just because something does not glow with light does not mean that it is from the dark.
Remember that every being is sacred and has a divine purpose. We are all part of source.
You have at least one main Spirit Guide, and probably more than one. I have three Spirit Guides. Two of them have been with me for as long as I remember. The third one came in later to work with me on something specific.
If you want to find out who your Spirit Guides are and what their names are, it helps to be able to calm your mind and body. Close your eyes, ask them to step in one at a time into your aura so you can see, feel or know them. Not everyone sees, some people feel or just know. That’s okay.
Then, ask for their name. It’s important that you be open to whatever comes through and you don’t second guess. Take the first thing you get. Spirit Guides don’t all have mystical names. And if you don’t like it, you can call them whatever you want – they love you so much, they don’t care what you call them. They’re not too concerned with spirit guide names.
I’d love to hear who your Spirit Guides are. We all learn from each other, so post a comment and let us know.
